Gentlemen, Under the controller tools section you will now see a vZID Phraseology Guide. This contains all relevant phraseology from DEL up through CTR and is pulled straight from the 7110.65. This replaces the Tower Cheat Sheet as well as the other ones as it is more comprehensive and in one single document. Enjoy! Thanks, Michael D. Hodge Jr vZID Training Administrator |

Policy Updates, Roster Updates and Competency |

One new policy and an update to the activity policy are now available in the ZID policies section. The major change to the activity policy is the clear definition of what is required of all ZID controllers to remain active on the ZID roster. All controllers must provide a minimum of 3 hours every 90 days in order to remain active. The change to the activity policy coincides with the purging of our roster. If a controller has not controlled at all within a 90 day period they are going to be notified via email that they are not in compliance and are subject to removal. The newest policy is the Promtiotion Policy that clearly defines how a controller may begin training on their next position and requirements needed for promotion. Please review this policy. Additionally, the Training Department as well as Senior Staff will be monitoring all controllers, this includes senior staff (meaning senior staff will be monitored as well) to observe that everyone is current and competent to staff their position. Lets face it everyones skills deteriorate if they are not used that goes the same for controlling. This will be done for everyone to insure that we can provide you the best informaton possible and to also gurantee that our clients (the pilots) receive the best ATC we can offer. Finally there are new SOPs in effect for KCVG and KIND. We are currently working on the KSDF SOP. These SOP's are listed in the Controllers Tools section under ZID Referance material; Please review. See you on the scopes Rob Prescott vZID ATM |

Controllers A couple new articles have been added to the controller tools section of the website. An introductory guide to setup and operation of the 3d radar mode in VRC has been added. This is a very usefull tool that steps up the realism for controllers working tower and below positions. Take some time to view the article and setup a profile in VRC using 3d radar mode, once you try it you will never go back. More 3d radar mode features to come in future releases of the sector file. Our training administrator Mike Hodge has also created a tower phraseology cheat sheet. For those of you who have a previous version of this document please download this new and improved version featuring military approaches. I know that we don't get alot of military traffic here at vZID but the better we know our military procedures the more likely we are to get some. |

Last night, the facility that hosts VATSIM.net and it's accompanying DNS had a major electrical fire. From ThePlanet's CEO:
This [Saturday May 31] evening at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.
We have just been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the short was in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department.
This is a significant outage, impacting approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers. All members of our support team are in, and all vendors who supply us with data center equipment are on site. Our initial assessment, although early, points to being able to have some service restored by mid-afternoon on Sunday. Rest assured we are working around the clock.
We are in the process of communicating with all affected customers. we are planning to post updates every hour via our forum and in our customer portal. Our interactive voice response system is updating customers as well.
There is no impact in any of our other five data centers. I am sorry that this accident has occurred and I apologize for the impact.
VATSIM email addresses will not work. So don't bother trying to use
